Gardening guidelines
Permissible Plants
- Allowed: Fruits, vegetables, flowers, and herbs ONLY.
- Prohibited: No illegal plants are allowed.
Plot Management
- Planting: All plants must be planted within the plot boundaries.
- Containment: Vegetation must be contained within the plot (e.g., vines/overgrowth should not extend outside the plot).
Produce Use
- Consumption: Produce grown is for the consumption by gardeners and their families or for donation to a food bank or charity.
- Prohibition: The garden may not be used for commercial purposes, and produce cannot be sold.
Planting Restrictions
- Tall Plants: Must be planted to avoid shading neighboring plots.
- Prohibited Plants: Trees, shrubs, bushes, and invasive plants (e.g., bamboo, mint, Jerusalem artichokes, raspberries, blueberries, blackberries) are prohibited.
Weed and Waste Management
- Weed Control: Gardeners must control weeds and grass within and around their plot.
- Trash and Supplies: No trash, litter, supplies, or tools should be left in the plot or surrounding areas.
- Inspections: Periodic inspections will occur to ensure compliance.
Approved Material
Allowed:
- Only EPA-approved fertilizers, pesticides, insecticides, and fungicides for home vegetable gardens may be used.
- Compost and organic soil amendments are welcome.
- Compost must be aged, odorless, and not attract insects.
- Herbicide/pesticide-free organic materials (dried leaves, grass clippings), biodegradable mulches (newspaper, cardboard), weed-block fabric, and black plastic.
Not Allowed:
- Wheat Straw (Hay), bales of any material.
- Chemical herbicides or pre-emergents (e.g., Roundup, Preen) are prohibited.
- Raw manure is not permitted.
General conduct
- Park and Garden Rules: Follow all posted rules.
- Community Tools and Spaces: Respect and take care of all tools, equipment, and community spaces.
- Security: Lock all gates and the barn if you are the last to leave.
